Community Band Festival Concert with artist-in-residence Kevin Day
Edina High School Auditorium
This is a pay-as-you-wish concert. Donations are welcome.
Minnesota Symphonic Winds is excited to announce “Let’s Band Together”: The Great Minnesota Community Band Festival. We are bringing together three of the Twin Cities’ finest adult community bands to celebrate and share the unique power of adult music-making in community wind ensembles as well as support historically underrepresented composers.
Acclaimed composer, conductor, pianist, and Pulitzer Prize nominee Kevin Day will be the artist-in-residence for the four-day festival that will include rehearsals with festival participants as well as rehearsals, clinics, and discussions at seven Twin Cities area high schools.
The festival will culminate with performances by each of the participating bands – Encore Wind Ensemble, Grand Symphonic Winds, and Minnesota Symphonic Winds – and the premiere of a Kevin Day composition commissioned by 38 organizations from across the country and internationally. Mr. Day is one of the most important new voices creating music today, and he has created an engaging, spirited work, Capricho, that he will conduct in its premiere performance.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
