William Webb
Associate Conductor Emeritus

A founding member of the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, William Webb served as the Associate Conductor and host of MSW in Edina for nearly thirty years, ten with Miles Johnson and twenty years with Timothy Mahr. Due to health issues, Bill is no longer playing trumpet or conducting, but as MSW Associate Conductor his vision and coordinating helped provide many wonderful MSW performances and events: MSW on MPR, a tour to Lucerne, Switzerland, a Caribbean cruise, a tour to Singapore, and a cruise to Alaska.

As band director at Edina High School, he was an active leader in a wide variety of Minnesota music organizations and has been a recipient of awards from local, state, and national organizations: 1991 Edina Public Schools’ “Excellence in Education”; 1997 Minnesota Music Teachers Association “Distinguished Service to Music in Minnesota”; 2004 Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony “School Music Educator of the Year”; 2011 Minnesota Music Educators Association “Educator of the Year”; 2015 Schmitt Music “Director of the Year”; 2015 University of Minnesota Bands “Celebrating Mentors Award”; 2018 NFHS – National Federation of High Schools “Outstanding Music Educator Award” for Minnesota; 2019 Minnesota State High School League “Hall of Fame”; 2020 NFHS Section 5 (upper midwest) “Music Educator of the Year”;
2021 NFHS “National Citation for Music”.

Bill comments, “My association with MSW has been a tremendously rewarding part of my adult musical life. I have many cherished MSW friendships and countless fantastic MSW memories. I would encourage everyone to find a way to enjoy music and music-making for a lifetime – the joy of making music with people of any age, is a rewarding gift.”
